Debate Format
OPENING ROUND- (5 min)
Introduce the position you will be taking in the debate. BRIEFLY state why you
are taking this position and why your opponent’s position is incorrect. Sight
sources that will be used in your premise round. You can choose to have your
camera on in this round or show a brief presentation.
PREMISE ROUND- (10 min)
PowerPoint presentations are required in this round. Go in DEPTH on your
position and why you have the better argument. Do not speak on your
opponent’s position. Judges may mistake it for rebuttal.
REBUTTAL ROUND (10 min)
In this round you should be rebutting your opponent’s information. NO NEW
INFORMATION SHOULD BE PRESENTED IN YOUR REBUTTAL! Your job is
to show an understanding of what was presented by your opponent in their
premise round and refute.
RAPID FIRE ROUND-(10 min)
You will interrogate your opponent in this round for 10 minutes (offense) and
you will be interrogated for 10 minutes (defense)
CLOSING ROUND-(5 min)
Give your closing argument. State why your position was better than your
opponent’s and point out how they failed to prove their argument. You are
allowed to rebut information in this round.
